Traditional crafts – the attraction of cultural tourism

As a part of the regional project called CRAFTATTRACT or, in a broader sense, “Traditional crafts – the attraction of cultural tourism”, this year in Mostar on October 8 and 9, 2014, a two-day event was held in Mostar, organized by the Museum of Herzegovina Mostar, called “Textile handicrafts – a tradition that live”. Museums from the region took part and various contents were arranged. We highlight the joint exhibition of the participants, then the round table entitled “The role of the museum in the preservation of original traditional knowledge and skills in textile handicrafts”, and a tour of craft workshops that still deal with the crafts of weaving and embroidery.
As part of the program, there was also a tour of the facility on the Bregava river in Stolac, where the traditional way of washing textiles with water (stupas and Christmas trees) is still carried out today.
The CRAFTATRACT international project, started by various institutions and museums in Slovenia and Croatia several years ago, has expanded to other countries and museums in the current cycle. Its initial goal to systematically process and present intangible heritage for inclusion on the UNESCO list today contributes to the development of culture and cultural tourism in the wider region.
